今回は筑波大学（2020年度）の自由英作文です。短めの長文を読み自身の体験に基づいて100words程度の英文を書くというもので、英検型の英作文とは異なり生徒は苦戦して2時間程かかっていました。「本番では15分で書くんだよ」と伝え、私は授業の空きコマだったので生徒の目の前で英作文を書いてみました。
黒のインクを切らしていたので赤のインクで書いています。急いで書いたので後日見直し、2,3か所訂正しています。
問題
次の英文を読んで、あなた自身の経験に基づいた具体的な理由を明示しながら、日本におけるfood wasteの問題に対する考えを１００語程度の英語で述べなさい。ただし、句読点は語数に含めません。
Food waste is an increasingly serious problem worldwide. Roughly 1.3 billion tons of food is reportedly wasted globally each year – even as more than 800 million people worldwide continue to suffer from malnutrition. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for halving per capita food waste by 2030. Overproduction of food and the disposal of food also result in wasteful energy consumption and the discharge of gases that contribute to global warming. Cutting back on food waste is a particularly serious challenge for Japan since it relies heavily on imports to meet its food demand.
実際に書いた英文
Food waste is becoming a global issue as the population increases and mass production becomes mainstream in our food culture.One solution to food waste is how leftover food should be dealt with.
I read in a news article that the Chinese government started a campaign, and restaurants face financial penalties if customers leave certain amounts of food. Another example is my experience in the Philippines. Unlike Japan, I was surprised to see many people take leftover food back home with bags.
Japan does not have strict rules on leftover food, and few restaurants allow customers to take it back home. If Japan changes its attitude toward leftover food, we Japanese can contribute to mitigating the global food crisis.
人口の増加と大量生産が食文化の主流となる中、食品ロスは世界的な問題になりつつあります。
食品ロスの解決策の一つは、残り物の管理を改善することです。私はニュース記事で、中国政府がキャンペーンを開始し、一定量以上の食べ残しがあるとレストランに罰金を科す制度を導入したことを読みました。もう一つの例は、私がフィリピンで経験したことです。日本とは違い、多くの人々が残った食べ物を袋に入れて持ち帰る姿に驚きました。
日本には食べ残しに関する厳しい規則はなく、残り物を持ち帰ることを許可しているレストランも少ないです。しかし、日本が残り物の扱いに対する姿勢を変えれば、私たち日本人も世界的な食料危機の緩和に貢献できるでしょう。
