今回は北九州市立大学（2019年度）大問3、和文英訳を解きました。大問4も解いたのですが良い文でした。訪れたことはないのですが素敵な大学なのだろうなと、問題を解きながら感じました。
問題
私たちが「当たり前」と思って使っている便利なものは、多くの科学者の探求、挑戦、努力、挫折、そしてその後で成功した時の無上の喜びのうえに成り立っているものなのである。

Most of the useful things we take for granted are the result of many scientists' pursuits, efforts, trial and error, and above all, a strong sense of accomplishment after their success.
解説
- 「便利なもの」 ⇒ "convenient things"とは言わない。"useful things"を選択。
- 「当然と思う」 ⇒ "take ～ for granted"
- 「…は～の上に成り立つ」 ⇒ "consist of"はおかしい。「…は～の結果だ」と解釈し"… are the result of ～"を選択。
- 「無上の～」 ⇒ 「探求、挑戦、努力、挫折の上に喜びがある」と解釈し"above all"を選択。
