今回は京都大学（2019年度）和文英訳を解いてみました。京都大学の英作文が最上位レベルと認識されていることが多いですが、個人的には医大や旧帝大の英作文はどこも変わらないと感じていて京都大学の問題だからといって構えすぎる必要もないかなと思っています。まずは日本語を理解すること、どの部分を直訳しどの部分を意訳するか判断できれば全く手をつけられないということもないと思いますのでまずは日本語をしっかりと理解するという所から始めてください。
問題
「マイノリティ」という言葉を聞くと、全体のなかの少数者をまず思い浮かべるかもしれない。しかし、マイノリティという概念を数だけの問題に還元するのは間違いのもとである。人種あるいは宗教のような属性によって定義づけられる集団は、歴史的、文化的な条件によって社会的弱者になっている場合、マイノリティと呼ばれる。こうした意味では、数としては少なくない集団でもマイノティとなる。例えば、組織の管理者のほとんどが男性である社会では、女性はマイノリティと考えられる。

When you hear the word "minority", you may associate it with individuals who belong to a particular group in small numbers. However, it is wrong to define a minority as the number of people in the group. Some groups have specific attributes, such as religion and race. If they are in socially weak positions due to historical and cultural backgrounds, they are called a minority. In this sense, some groups that are not small in number can still be considered a minority. For example, in a society where most of the managers are male, females are regarded as a minority.
